Today Friday February 19, 2021, work has commenced to deliver a brand new concrete bridge over the Iyi Uduma -Mmuri bridge, Ohafia as the Contractor, Messers Hartland Construction Company limited that had earlier taken over the site in January, 2021 has mobilised to site.
This project is keeping in line with the earlier statement issued by the facilitator of the project on November 25, 2020, the member representing Arochukwu/Ohafia Federal Constituency, Rt. Hon. Uko Ndukwe Nkole that the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing had awarded the construction of the brand new bridge to Hartland/Setraco Construction Nigeria.
This is an integral responsibility of the federal lawmaker to consistently bring to lime light the plight of his constituents to the attention of the Federal Executive Council In ensuring that the dilapidated Mmuri bridge including the Omenuko bridge received the adequate attention it deserves in line with best global standards to alleviate the suffering and plights of the Road users.
Rt. Hon. Nkole wishes to use the opportunity to thank all the road users who plies on the Ohafia-Ozu Abam-Bende-Umuahia for their patience during these period of awaiting for completion of all due process and work commencement and solicits for their maximum cooperation to enable the contractor deliver a quality job in time.
Nkole expresses his heartfelt appreciation to the Federal Executive Council, President Muhammadu Buhari, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu, the Governor of ABIA State and the Minister for Works and Housing, His Excellency, Babatunde Fashola for meeting up with speed the concerns, yearnings and aspirations of genuine stakeholders to the realization of a sustainable solution through the delivery of a standard bridge on this Federal Corridor.

The federal fire service has approved the siting of a new fire station within the premises of the Ohafia Local Government Area headquarters.
This revealation was made by the Assistant Controller General of Fire, Karebo Pere Samson who led a delegation of Federal fire service officers on a facility visit to the Executive Chairman of Ohafia LGA, Dr Okorafor Ukiwe.
Mr. Karebo added that the choice of the headquarter premises was due to its size and the presence of security assets that will ensure the protection of the forthcoming station from vandalisation.
In his response, the chairman expressed his delight on the new development and promised to ensure that the fire station comes alive in the interest of not just Ohafia but the entire Abia North.
He used the opportunity to thank the Executive Governor of Abia State Dr Victor Okezie Ikpeazu for his decision to direct the delegation to Ohafia, ensuring that Abia North senatorial zone is equipped with a fire service station.

The Executive Chairman of Ohafia Local Government, Dr. Okorafor Ukiwe has disclosed his administration's readiness to prioritize youth empowerment, maintaining that their engagement will engender peace in the area.
Dr. Ukiwe made the disclosure during an interactive session on Love 99.9FM Radio program tagged "Open Parliament".
"My belief is that, if you build infrastuctures without empowering the youths and women, by ensuring they are gainfully engaged, your efforts would amount to nothing.
"Lack of empowerment can cause restiveness. This is why we see our Youths as project that must be priotized, to give capacity through the skill acquisition program, while tapping from the Governor Okezie Ikpeazu's Education for Employment (E4E) program," he said.
"Our empowerment initiative is geared towards building entrepreneurs whose potential would be required in implementing and sustaining a verile economy for the local government," he concluded.
Speaker of Abia State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Engr Chinedum Enyinnaya has commissioned a Skill Acquisition Centre initiated by the Akanu Women Development Association and completed by Rt Hon Ifeanyi Uchendu, the Deputy Speaker and Member representing Ohafia South State Constituency at the Abia State House of Assembly.
While commissioning the Centre, the Speaker commended the Deputy Speaker for accepting to complete the edifice after the Akanu Women Development Association had started it and called for his support.
He said the positive effect of the completion of the Skill Acquisition Centre to the people of Akanu will be massive as youths in the area, the major beneficiaries of the project, will shun social vices and be productive.
The Speaker also promised to equip the Skill Acquisition Centre with laptops, sewing machines, power generating set and other relevant items that will be needed in the effective running of the Centre.
Clerk of the House, Sir JohnPedro Irokansi accompanied the Speaker to the event.
