Abia State Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu has commissioned the newly constructed Nkporo Cottage Hospital in Ohafia Local Government Area of the State to provide adequate secondary healthcare for the people at the grassroots.
Commissioning the Cottage hospital as part of the Governor's 'Kinetic Abia' Project Inspection and Commissioning, Governor Ikpeazu said the facility is fully equipped with mother & care facilities, radiant warmers, ultra sound machines, incubators, a modern theatre that can undertake orthopedic surgeries, laboratory facilities and 24 hours solar power. He said the management structure of the hospital is such that the medical personnel are indigenes of the Community who must reside within the community.
Governor Ikpeazu, who urged indigenes of Nkporo and Ohafia LGA to leverage on the establishment of the hospital to provide medical services to their people,said that they should support the hospital with their expertise. He announced that the hospital would have a Management Board comprising members of the Nkporo Development Union, the Youths and the Women of Nkporo to enable have a sense of ownership of the hospital.
The Governor disclosed that the State Government will support the hospital with a monthly subvention, and promised to commence the building of staff quarters and donate ambulance for the facility as well as absorb the staff into the State Hospital Management Board (HMB) and retain them in the hospital.
Also speaking, the Deputy Governor, Rt Hon. Ude Oko Chukwu, who is an indigene of the benefiting community said the Governor has changed the narrative in healthcare in Nkporo. He said his people are full of joy for the giant strides of the Governor in his community. He saluted the Governor for ensuring that the medical facilities in the hospital are comparable to what is obtainable in modern hospitals and assured that they will own the hospital and protect it.
Contributing, the Member representing Arochukwu/Ohafia Federal Constituency, Honorable Uko Nkole and Member, representing Ohafia North at the State House of Assembly, Hon. Mandela Obasi lauded the Governor for his efforts in remembering those in the rural areas by building the facility. They said the people are excited over the provision of the hospital that would serve the healthcare needs of the people.
Hon. Uko Nkole specifically thanked the Governor for the ongoing construction of a similar medical facility at Abam, Arochukwu LGA.
Speaking, the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Joe Osuji informed that the hospital has all that is needed for a hospital to function effectively including all the departments and trained personnel to manage it. He said the hospital would give the people affordable and accessible healthcare and charged the community authorities to take the facility as their own and secure it
Dr. Osuji said the Governor is providing an ultra modern pediatric hospital, Mother & Child Healthcare Centre and is renovating Schools of Nursing in the State, including the recent award of contract for the construction of 100 bed building project in the School of Midwifery, Amachara, Umuahia. He added the efforts of the Governor in the healthcare is a sign that health center delivery in the State will get a boost
In their speeches, the Executive Chairman of Ohafia LGA, Dr. Okoroafor Ukiwe and the President, Nkporo Development Union, Chief Benjamin Imeri thanked the Governor for many things done for the Nkporo community including changing their stories of bad road networks for good. They appreciated the Governor for commissioning their road and training youths of the area in different skills to contribute to the development of the State and the provision of the hospital. They assured that the people would protect the facility.
All the Chairmen of the Local Government Areas in Abia North also spoke at the event and hailed the Governor for his people oriented activities.
Also, the Chairman, Nigeria Medical Association, Abia State, Dr Chimezie Okwuonu affirmed that the hospital would help in reducing infant mortality and will provide health care for the people at the grassroots saying that the people would no longer travel to far places for medical services
Highlights of the occasion was the conferment of the Chieftaincy Title of AHAINYI on the Governor by the Abia North Council of the Traditional Rulers led by its Chairnan, Eze Uwakwe Ukaegbu.
The event attracted an array of dignitaries from across the State, including the Secretary to Government, Barrister Chris Ezem, State Chairman of the PDP, Rt Hon Asiforo Okere, present and serving members of the National and State Assemblies and a host of political leaders especially from Abia North.

Chief Ukpai Agwu Ukpai made his final journey home in pride as he was received in different communities from Ibeku to Abam, from Ebem to Achichi Elu, Amaekpu also, and finally his home town, Asaga Ohafia; a feat befitting his personality.
Ogbuagu as he was fundly called, was until his demise, the Deputy Chief of Staff the Abia State Governor, and he had at a time been the Executive Chairman of Ohafia Local Government Area.
May God grant him sweet repose, and give his family the fortitude to bear the loss.

ABIA STATE GOVERNOR IKPEAZU MEETS OHAFIA-BORN ELECTRICITY POWER PLANT INNOVATOR -AWARDS HIM FULL 5-YEAR UNDERGRADUATE SCHOLARSHIP
Abia State Governor, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu has awarded 5 years scholarship to Mr Solomon Ukoha who constructed an electricity sub station with crude oil and other locally sourced materials. The scholarship is for him to further his education in any tertiary institution of his choice.
Governor Ikpeazu who made this pronouncement at his lodge in Aba while receiving the 24 years old Solomon who is from Okon Aku in Ohafia LGA of the State expressed joy over the technical ingenuity exhibited by the young innovator noting that Abia has youths who can compete favourably with their international counterparts in technical education if given the opportunity.
The Governor explained that power supply has been a major problem facing the country and as such has impacted negatively on economic growth and industrialization especially in the shoe, leather and garments sub sectors for which Aba is well known.
The Governor encouraged Solomon to train some other youths and impart same knowledge to them for the greater benefit of society.
The Chief Executive however encouraged him to build a more presentable prototype of the sub station to enable it compete in external exhibitions revealing that the scholarship covers his tuition fee and accommodation immediately he gets admission.
Showcasing his innovation to the Governor, Mr Solomon Ukoha who said he has completed his secondary school education without any hope of going to the university due to financial challenges revealed that he got the inspiration from God.
He appealed to the State Governor to assist him further his education, a step he said would help him greatly in fulfilling his ambition and expressed his readiness to teach other youths as advised by the Governor.
Recall that Mr Solomon Ukoha whose video went viral on the social media last week tested the electrical sub station before the Governor.

COMMUNIQUE ISSUED BY THE SOUTHEAST GOVERNORS' FORUM AT THE END OF ITS SECURITY MEETING WITH SOUTHEAST CLERGY, LEADERSHIP OF TRADITIONAL RULERS, OHANEZE NDIGBO AND SOUTH EAST JOINT SECURITY COMMITTEE HELD
ON SUNDAY, THE 25TH DAY OF APRIL, 2021, AT THE EXECUTIVE COUNCIL CHAMBERS, LION BUILDING, GOVERNMENT HOUSE, ENUGU.
The Forum, at the end of its meeting, came up with the following resolutions:
1. South East Governors and Leaders re-stated the adoption of a common Joint Security outfit called EBUBEAGU with her Regional Headquarters in Enugu.
EBUBEAGU will work with the Police and other security agencies in her operations to protect lives and property in South East;
2. We agreed on the structure and operational modalities of EBUBEAGU and to set up an Advisory Board for the security outfit;
3. The Hon. Attorneys General and Commissioners for Justice of the South East States have been directed to work with the Joint Security Committee to come
up with the amendment of the existing State Laws to reflect the new EBUBEAGU outfit;
4. The meeting directed Ohaneze Ndigbo President to immediately form two Committees:
(a) South East Peace and Reconciliation Committee to engage our people for
the peace and security of our people and her visitors;
(b) Strategy and Welfare Committee to engage and protect our people,
especially those who are being unfairly treated.
These Committees must become functional within the next 10 (ten) days from date;
5. The meeting is in support of restructuring, the setting up of State Police and other national issues as discussed in the last NEC meeting.
A Committee has been set up to work out acceptable modalities and submit them to NEC in its next
6. The meeting condemns the attacks on the country home of the Governor of Imo State, His Excellency, Senator Hope Uzodimma and other State
infrastructure. We sympathize with him and call on the Federal Government to fish out the perpetrators and ensure their prosecution;
7. South East leaders restate their commitments to our State laws banning open grazing in the South East and urge the security agencies and the local vigilantes to enforce the ban in all States of South East;
8. South East Governors agreed on the implementation of various END SARS Youth Empowerment Programmes in the South East States as soon as possible.

The classroom block at Okpocha Primary School which was attracted by the Deputy Speaker of Abia State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Uchendu has now been completed.
The classroom block is expected to be commissioned/handed over to the School and the Elders of Amaekpu Community soonest for use.
Other classroom blocks attracted by the Deputy Speaker at Amaetiti Primary School (Asaga Ohafia), Isiugwu Community Secondary School (Isiugwu Ohafia) and Amaekpu Community Primary School (Amaekpu Ohafia) are already in use and has addressed the issue of poor learning environment at these schools.

“You Are Doing Us A Great Deal of Favour. We Are Proud of You" - Abia Deputy Governor tells Abia Deputy Speaker.
The Deputy Governor of Abia State, Rt. Hon. Sir Ude Oko Chukwu has described the Deputy Speaker of Abia State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Dr. Ifeanyi Uchendu as a TRUE representative of his people.
The Deputy Governor stated this today at the Foundation Laying Ceremony of the Abia North Fire Service Station at Amaekpu Ohafia.
Speaking at the event, the Deputy Governor stated that the Deputy Speaker is doing the Okezie Ikpeazu's administration a great deal of favour by complementing the efforts of the administration in providing basic infrastructures at the grassroot.
He also noted that the Deputy Speaker who was given the opportunity to represent the people of Ohafia South has made everyone proud and at the same time shown very clearly his capability and readiness to shoulder even a bigger responsibility.
Rt. Hon. Ude Oko Chukwu promised that the state Government will continue to support the Deputy Speaker, declaring that the Fire Service Station will bring more good tidings to the people of Abia North.
He appealed to the good people of Ohafia South Constituency never to relent in their continues support to the Deputy Speaker to enable him achieve even more.
According to the Deputy Governor who is also celebrating his birthday today, “God allowed the coincidence to happen. Since the Deputy Speaker decided that the best way to celebrate my birthday is to rekindle hope in the lives of Abia North citizens by Laying a Foundation stone for the construction of the Abia North Fire Service. I want to tell you my very dear brother, this is one of the best way to celebrate my birthday.
And for others who would love to celebrate my birthday again, either this year or next year, also ask me to come and lay foundations stone for nde Ohafia, Abia North or Abia State". he concluded.
Earlier in his Speech, the Sponsor of the project and the Deputy Speaker of Abia State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Uchendu noted that he embarked on the project to its very importance in fighting fire outbreaks in the Zone.
He argued that apart from the Fire Service Stations at Aba and Umuahia which serve the Abia South and Central Zone, the people of Abia North were still lacking behind which according to him prompted his motion at the floor of the 6th Abia State House of Assembly for A Fire Service Station in Abia North Zone.
He informed the audience that the Governor has already promised to donate a fire fighting truck to the station once the project is completed.
The Deputy Speaker also explained that out of the 9 projects he initiated since last year, 7 of them have been completed and commissioned. He also informed that the Skill Acquisition Center Project in Amangwu community of Ohafia will be completed by April this year.
He thanked the Governor of Abia State, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu and his Deputy, Rt. Hon. Sir Ude Oko Chukwu as well as the Speaker of Abia State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Engr. Chinedum Orji for their unflinching support which has seen him perform beyond the expectations of the people while assuring that he will do more.
Also Speaking, the Comptroller Abia State Fire Service, Mr. Victor Okey Gbaruko thanked the Deputy Speaker for his thoughtfulness in initiating the project for Abia North Zone. He noted that the project when completed will assist the men of the state fire service in tackling incidence of fire outbreak in Ohafia and Abia North in General.
Mr Gbaruko also stated he is optimistic that the actualization of the project will help to boost the number of their personnel as he noted that Abia State has the lowest number of Fire Service personnel in the country. He pleaded with the Governor through his Deputy to assist the Outfit in recruiting more capable hands to enable them function optimally.
In his own Speech, the traditional ruler of Amaekpu Community, Eze Awa Nwankwo thanked the Deputy Speaker for constantly delivering dividends of democracy to the people of Ohafia. He noted that a project as the Fire Service Station is a big plus to the law maker who has since changed the narratives as it bothers on efficient and effective representation.
He assured the Deputy Speaker of the continues support of Amaekpu community in all his future endeavours.
