The Executive Chairman of Ohafia Local Government, Dr. Okorafor Ukiwe has disclosed his administration's readiness to prioritize youth empowerment, maintaining that their engagement will engender peace in the area.
Dr. Ukiwe made the disclosure during an interactive session on Love 99.9FM Radio program tagged "Open Parliament".
"My belief is that, if you build infrastuctures without empowering the youths and women, by ensuring they are gainfully engaged, your efforts would amount to nothing.
"Lack of empowerment can cause restiveness. This is why we see our Youths as project that must be priotized, to give capacity through the skill acquisition program, while tapping from the Governor Okezie Ikpeazu's Education for Employment (E4E) program," he said.
"Our empowerment initiative is geared towards building entrepreneurs whose potential would be required in implementing and sustaining a verile economy for the local government," he concluded.
Speaker of Abia State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Engr Chinedum Enyinnaya has commissioned a Skill Acquisition Centre initiated by the Akanu Women Development Association and completed by Rt Hon Ifeanyi Uchendu, the Deputy Speaker and Member representing Ohafia South State Constituency at the Abia State House of Assembly.
While commissioning the Centre, the Speaker commended the Deputy Speaker for accepting to complete the edifice after the Akanu Women Development Association had started it and called for his support.
He said the positive effect of the completion of the Skill Acquisition Centre to the people of Akanu will be massive as youths in the area, the major beneficiaries of the project, will shun social vices and be productive.
The Speaker also promised to equip the Skill Acquisition Centre with laptops, sewing machines, power generating set and other relevant items that will be needed in the effective running of the Centre.
Clerk of the House, Sir JohnPedro Irokansi accompanied the Speaker to the event.
